Our Light Sussex originates from European Lines. These fowl were originally bred in Sussex County, England a century ago using a variety of breeds. Their primary focus was a dual purpose bird that would produce a decent number of eggs over winter.
Sussex comes in a variety of colors. Light Sussex has proven to be the most attractive coloration and considered to be one of the oldest known breeds. This makes them perfect for your heritage breeding program.
Light Sussex lays approximately 200 tinted medium eggs per year with colors ranging from pink to creamy hue. We found that grown birds weigh approximately 11 lbs. for male and 8.5 lbs. for female.
These birds are very docile and will tend to go broody.
